Happy 10th Birthday, Riverside Spa!

OR, in other words, thank you thank you thank you to our valued guests and staff!

Today, is the day.

We have reached the mile-marker that once loomed so far into the future it felt like a straight-up impossibility. Riverside Spa is ten years old!

Naturally, we’re experiencing a variety of emotions:

Shock, for the speed at which time passes.

Delight, for sweet celebrations sake.

Gratitude, for our valued guests.

(Oh, how we LOVE our guests!)

And pride, because… well, why not? We have accomplished so much more than we ever thought we would.

NaPoWriMo #4 (A Great Granddaughter’s Lament)

I spent some time with my father’s side of the family last summer. My second-cousin was kind enough to host a reunion. It was so ridiculously awesome to be there… I loved every minute of it!

Because I grew up so far away from virtually all of my extended family, I’ve missed out on a great deal of relationship. I regret this tremendously.

On the flip-side, my situation lends me an interesting perspective. When surrounded by my own flesh and blood, even though I don’t really know anyone, I feel a sense of belonging that has eluded me for most of my life. There exists a bond that tethers me to these folk. I can feel it in my bones.

I think my Great Grandmother must have been one hell of a woman. I suppose it all started with her:

Now.

I’ve been meaning to write about my second and third miscarriages for a very long time. (If you’d care to read about the first, you can do so here.)  I start… and then stop… and then I start and stop some more.  The problem seems to be with finishing; primarily that it never happens.

So, in a bid to practice what I preach – “Done is better than perfect!” – I am going to finally accomplish what I have set out to do.
